What is a duathlon?

A duathlon is a multisport event that involves three consecutive stages: running, cycling, and running. It is similar to a triathlon, but without the swimming component.

Duathlons typically consist of two running segments sandwiched between a cycling segment. The distances vary depending on the type of duathlon, with sprint duathlons being shorter (5k run, 20k bike, 2.5k run) and standard or long-distance duathlons being longer (10k run, 40k bike, 5k run).

Duathlons can be done individually or as part of a relay team, where each participant completes one of the stages. They are popular among athletes who may not enjoy swimming or who want to focus on their running and cycling abilities.

Duathlons are held in a variety of settings, including roads, trails, and off-road terrain. They are organized by governing bodies such as USA Triathlon and the International Triathlon Union, and are often part of larger multi-sport events or race series.
